Coach Linda has been actively coaching since 1981. Yes! four decades!
Coach Linda's philosophy can be wrapped up in one word - service. Coach Linda believes in progressive development through technique, creativity, and IQ. "If we aren't learning, we aren't growing. If we aren't growing, we aren't pushing ourselves. If we don't push ourselves beyond our comfort zones, we won't be able to achieve the goals we have set. Share with me your goals and I will help you achieve them."
Coach Linda believes in accountability and has chosen to focus on beach volleyball because of the unique and challenging elements of the sport. "I love that this sport demands the athlete to be well-rounded physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is self-driven, yet partner dependent, requiring the athlete to give their best while working with their partner. This is a reflection of life. As a coach, I strive to contribute to the growth of each athlete as an individual beyond the play on the sand."
On the sand, coach Linda is a progressive, technique-oriented coach. "I strive to give my all each practice and I expect the athletes to do the same. We navigate the ups and downs together, evolving as the sport evolves."
The progressive philosophy allows the athletes to acknowledge their successes as they grow. "When an athlete comes to me, I meet them where they are at. I am demanding and integral because I love sharing in the victories of our athletes. I love this sport. It's fun! It's out in nature with ever-changing demands. It is organic, dynamic! And joy is at the heart of it. I suppose that's why I am still coaching some 40 years later. Each day presents new opportunities, new faces, new goals, new defeats to learn from and new victories to celebrate!"
"Hard work is the price of admission to be great. If you're not willing to pay the price of admission, don't be surprise when not admitted."
In his 33rd year involved in the sport, Coach Sean's passion for the sport of volleyball, both on the hard court and in the sand is infectious.
It all started with the need for a ride home! And Coach Sean credits the players of "yester-year" with the heart to give back to set the tone of his philosophy of always creating a comfortable environment to meet each player where they are at. "I love the game and it gave me a life I would not have otherwise."
Now It's about the athlete - I tell the kids all the time, "If you believe you can, you will."
The beach requires and demands the IQ of the entire game. That's demanding, fun, and challenging. As a coach, I see the motivation on the sand rewarded through guaranteed play time and the responsibilities each player has for the entirety of the game.
I love that the game forces them to have a maturity they didn't know they had. And the fact is, this game is fun! It's just fun! But just because it's fun, doesn't mean the tough challenges and the hard work don't go hand in hand with the fun.
Welcoming the hard work, while holding on to the passion, love and fun of the game separates the elite athlete from those who want it to be easy. I enjoy knowing that as coach, our athletes are satisfied, knowing they put in the work, had fun while they did it, and it pays off!
Grace was originally recruited by Texas A&M Kingsville to play both indoor and beach volleyball. "It's been a great ride with amazing memories, playing against the greats of TCU, LSU, and so many more outstanding programs." Grace hopes to instill the value of a strong work ethic, focusing on what each player can control and being good teammates. Having positive attitudes towards your coaches, partners and opponents are attributes that will get you ar in the game as well as in life.
This is Grace's 3rd summer coaching with Tiger Beach.
